  1. I didn't know what physical and health literacy is but now I think physical and health literacy is a way to put yourself towards a healthy lifestyle by critical thinking about it and acting towards it. A physical and health literate individual, I think, is a person that thinks about their health and has the information to learn or try the sports there are. I also believe that a physical and health literate individual is a person that likes to be active and knows basic skills to play in any sport. It is also about thinking about what types of food you should eat and shouldn't eat.

  2. To say the truth, I first didn't know what physical and health literacy was because I haven't really heard of it. However, after watching the video, I learned that physical and health literacy is to move with confidence to make your self healthier and to develop yourself. Moving on, I believe that physical and health literate individual is a person who understands the information that they need for their health decisions. For example, it's like a person who eats vegetables, and a healthy meal unlike consuming fried food everyday. Not only that, but also for people who loves sports and exercises daily.

    1. I agree with everything that was just said. I expect many people have never heard of physical and health literacy, just like I hadn't. However, I think it's very important that people all around the world start learning about it, especially with global health issues that are arising such as obesity. I also agree that physical and health literacy is mental as much as anything else. It's believing in yourself and telling yourself what you need to do to stay healthy. People need to know what balance is. Physical and healthy literacy doesn't mean you can never eat ice-cream, it means that you know you shouldn't eat it everyday.

    2. Very true Sofia... Finding balance is key, also eating in moderation!

  3. Before watching this video, I had no idea what physical and health literacy was. I have never really heard nor read about it. After watching this video, I can understand that physical and health literacy is when someone can understand the importance of being physical and the importance of your health. Also, being able to set goals for yourself, which will help your confidence. I think that to be a physical and health literate individual you need to exercise, but you also have to enjoy it. You also have to be wary of the kinds and amounts of food that you eat. Your nutrition is a very big part of your health.

    2. I agree with you Ms. Arcenas, I also think that it is really important to enjoy physical education because you don't do it because you arced to or because you want to be healthy but also because you like to do any sport.

    3. That's something I hadn't thought of, but it's true that it's a lot easier to be physical and health literate is you enjoy what you are doing. Many people don't do any sport because they don't like it, but I think people should just try various different activities and find one that suits them. Another thing that could help is doing it with friends, that way even if it's not your favorite activity, you can keep it fun.

But after watching this informative video I know that physical and health literacy means to make good decision about your health. They want us to know how to recognize good and bad decision. They explain that before doing any sports you need to know how to do the basics , after you can learn strategies to get better at it. It also explains the benefits of doing sports and exercises , because it reduces the risk of you having any serious diseases. 5. Physical and health literacy are two things that are completely new to me. At first, I was confused and shocked at how high obesity ranks as a mortality factor. But once I thought about it, it made a lot of sense. What I believe is a physical and health literate individual, is a person who pays attention to their well being and works toward their goal. Also, I believe that a person with these skills is good at any type of sport whether the sport is on a field or in a swimming pool. All skills overlap each other making them even more important to learn. In all, this video shows the importance of your health and fitness and makes you aware of the consequences.

  6. First, I believed that someone who has physical and health literacy would be someone very active and healthy. After I watched the video, I realized that there is more to only looking good. Someone who has physical and health literacy is a person who knows what is good and bad. Someone who is food and health educated. What you eat is a very important part of health, but being active also crucial. You need to do what you like and have fun, or else it won't count!

  7. To begin with, I didn't know what Physical and Health Literacy meant because the combination of those words seemed strange to me. But after thinking about it, I thought it was the frequency for the amount of exercise or type of diet. After watching the video, I found out that I was partly right because Physical and Health Literacy is not specifically exercising but to keep moving everyday for a certain amount of time. The fact that a child can have a smaller life expectancy because they did not do the right amount of exercise is really depressing. Or not only restricting chocolates and candy from someones life but by eating lots of vegetables and drink water. Overall, Physical and Health Literacy means the system of having to physically move and eat differently so we are better physically and so living a normal life.

  8. At first, when I caught a glimpse of the words "Physical and Health Literacy", I imagined that it meant the physical ability that someone has. Thus, I'd conclude that our health may vary depending on our physical capability. After watching this video, my thoughts were proven to be true. I have always valued physical exercise and due to my parents' education I have practiced it since I am young. I am grateful for learning so early in my life and not having to face grave consequences of lack of physical exercise. I believe that playing sports is a very beneficial activity. By playing sports on a daily basis I can sleep better, think better, and improve my health. Physical exercise is a critical aspect that contributes to our health. Through physical activities we become more competent and consequently dedicate ourselves more thoroughly. We can make friends and have a better relationship with others, learn to lose and be a good sports, and learn lessons that certainly will be applied in your life. Basically, all comes down to physical and health literacy. This, I believe.

  9. Basically, before watching this video I thought Physical and Health Literacy was something PE teachers would do, regulate their diet and variate their sports. Afterwards, when I finished watching the video, I learnt that it's not only teachers who have to variate their diet and be physically active for a certain amount of time, everyone does. I think now, I will start eating more healthy and start exercising more so everyday I can get better and live a longer life. Overall this video about Physical and Health Literacy is just a warning, showing us all the consequences but also showing us how to prevent having a shorter life and being unhealthy.

Now after I watched it, I found out that it is when you learn about being healthy and changing your diet to make sure you are getting enough fruits and vegetables, and also doing enough sports. The recommended amount is 60 minutes per day, however not that many people do this, making their life spams shorter, and it can also lead them to have bad grades. I used to think physical and health literacy was, well I didn't really know what it was but after watching this video I think physical and health literacy is very interesting and is something that should be taught in most schools. I was surprised that obesity can lead to death and does so many times. But really it was not that amazing because I already previously knew that being obese could lead to various diseases and heart failure etc. I now know that physical and literature students are students that set goals for themselves to complete throughout the course of their lives and that is always making sure that they are physically fit. To conclude, I know think that physical literacy is someone who is aware of their well being and is constantly trying to improve in everything they do.

Like you Ms.Arcenas, This I also believe.

  20. I used to think physical and health literacy was something to do with reading, but now I think physical and health literacy is preparing and going the the process of learning skills, strategies and etc. Before you learn how to play any sports, you have to learn different parts of it. For example, before playing soccer you have to know how to pass. Also, it helps you to make the right decisions and become a healthy person. I believe that a person is a health and physical literate when then have enough knowledge to process the thinking in to doing what is right and having enough skills to be able to participate in a well in a sport and safely.

  21. Before I had watched this video I had no idea what the term "Physical and Health Literacy" meant. This was actually the first time that I had ever heard the term in my life. I was surprised that physical inactivity is the forth leading cause of death in the world today. One thing in this video that I do not agree with was when the guy said that children from the ages of six to sixteen should have sixty or more minutes of moderate to rigorous exercise. I think that people of all ages should be getting outside more and exercising so that people will live longer and healthier lives.

    1. Hello, Kevin! I also noticed the same thing you did in the video we watched. Probably the reason why they only mentioned how much exercise children from age 6-16 should be getting is that the video is being directed to them… But, I thoroughly agree with what you said of exercising at all ages. There is no point in exercising just for a short period of time. We need to exercise in the course of our whole life to maintain a healthy body and mind. Good observation!

  22. Before I did not not know what physical and health literacy was. Now I think it is to make good decisions in exercising and eating. I think it can also be Sompetant and confidence of a movement. Teens and kids (5-17 years old) have to exercise 60 minutes everyday. Not exercising is the fourth risk of mortality. The first, second and third, are blood pressure, tobacco, and high blood sugar. However, 7% of teens and kids are exercising 60 minutes every single day. Also, 50% of teens and kids are eating the right things. Children that eat vegetables and fruits will have 3-4 years of lifespans. As you can see its very important to eat properly and exercise. However, we have to be physical health literacy.

  24. In all honesty, I didn't have any idea of what "Physical and Health Literacy" meant. After watching this video, I now have a clear understanding of it, and I have came to a conclusion that it's extremely important. First, health literacy means that through critical thinking skills, you make good choices for yourself. For example, you need to have the ability of being a risk-taker in order to be successful in sports. Changing facets, physical literacy means performing physical activity; move with confidence and competence. Moreover, I also was shocked when the video said that people who don't perform physical activity get 5 years less of their life spam. Once and for all, physical and health literacy is a key point of becoming a smart, friendly, and fun person to be with. I am glad that I am learning about this, and this will not only aid me to my present life, but to my future as well.

  28. Wow...! I never took a moment to realize some things from here. To be honest, before I thought physical and health literacy was just being healthy and eating correctly. Also smoking. But now I have a different visual about this. I now think it is something important for your life that shouldn't be left out. You need to eat many vegetables, do sports, do not smoke... Very little people actually follow a good example which is bad.
Lastly I believe a person that is physical and health literacy is an example for everyone which is healthy on food, does sports every day, doesn't fall on things that ruin your life but at the same time, enjoys and has fun. END

  29. When the video started I had no idea what physical and health literacy meant but now after I have watched the video, I understand what it means. I didnt think that not doing physical activities and not eating vegetables would affect you so much that you would live about 3-4 years shorter. I was very surprised and I now know how important it is. When I started watching the video I knew these things affected you but not that much. Before I watched the video I didn't know what health and physical literacy meant, but now I think physical and health literacy is staying healthy and taking care of yourself like eating vegetables and exercising.

  30. I used to think that Physical and Health Literacy was just learning about how to treat you well and how to take care of others. But now I know Physical and Health Literacy is just about that, but controlling your diet and making sure you do sports everyday. You should take of your body and people with 5-17 years of age should have at least 60 minutes of exercise per day, which only 7% of us are doing. Because of the lack of Physical Education, this is the 4th main reason of why people die earlier than usual. They die of Breast and Colon Cancer, Diabetes, and Heart Diseases. Kids who don't eat their vegetables have the chance of having a lifespan 3-4 years shorter than usual. This makes a big difference in our environment.

I believe that having good Physical and Health Education is really important in our lives. There are some consequences with having the lack of Sport and Health and we should try to prevent it. We should pay more attention to ourselves and try to prevent all of this, because if we don't there are a lot of Consequences.

  32. To me physical and health literacy was excersising and just eating vegetables. Now I know you also have to be careful of what you are eating. Eating McDonalds and then eating vegetables does not make it healthy. If you eat some fruit and then have eggs and then eat vegetables that is healthy. For physical activity kids and teens should get 60 minutes everyday. Recess playing tag is not being physically literate. Eating completely healthy and excersising 60 minutes everyday is being physically and health literate.

    1. I agree, but the quantity also matters. For example, if you eat too many vegetables that's also not healthy. I think we should variate our meals because eating ONLY vegetables isn't good because there's also other foods and proteins that our body needs that aren't in veggies.

    2. I do think recess is part of physical lit. Because you do run and you take your time. You actually want to play tag with your friends. Sometime you might walk outside but sometimes its just your mom making you go outside because you were on the internet.

  33. I used to think that health and phisical literacy was just knowing how to play sports and knowing each sport's skills, and also to know how to take care of ouselves and our health. But now I think that health and phisical literacy is learning how to use general skills such as blocking or underhand throw, and then we can use these general skills in many sports. In addition, now I think health literacy is learning about nutrition and other things to know how to keep healthy so we are able to have a happy, fun, and at the same time stable life in various ways. Finally, I Believe that a health and phisical literate is a peson who eats well, doesn't smoke or consume alchohol or any other drugs, someone who does daily exersice and also someone who has a happy life. I believe that this is the "formula" for a person to have a good and healthy life.

Now I see that it is about staying healthy, using good techniques, teamwork, and being in good shape. I find it crazy how you can lose 4 or 5 years of life because you aren't very physically healthy. I used to also think that being healthy was only about eating good things, but now I see that it is also about being fit and getting at least an hour of physical activity each day. I think it is when you are healthy and do at lead one hour of fitness a day. It improves our lives and makes us a better and happier person. Eating better can help our life expand, when eating nothing decreases our years of life. I think that this video kind of relates to me, because I am a person that exercises everyday. I am also very happy person and a good person. I do think that fitness can create a better person. For example, one week, I didn't do sports and I felt so lazy and so annoyed and I just wanted to stay watching TV the whole day. After, I did exercise and I loved it! It makes me happy because it gives me something to do and it helps me. I was kinda of shocked that the only half of the children in 10 families don't eat vegetables and that if you don't eat it, your life decreases. After watching this video, and thinking about it, I decided that I will continue what I am doing, and I will eat healthier so I can live longer.

  43. I used to think physical and healthy literacy was just being aware of what is good for your body and what you should do, but now I think that physical and health literacy is being able to make the right decisions involving your health, and being able to do enough physical activity to keep you healthy.
I believe that a physical and health literate individual is a person who knows what is good and bad for their body in general. They know that they shouldn’t smoke or drink, and that they should stick to a balanced diet every day. As for the physical aspect, it’s pushing yourself the correct amount in order to do the minimum amount of physical activity per day. It’s training your body to do a range of different things that can help you in various sports.
Basically, being a physical and health literate being is leading a balanced and healthy life.

Now I know that it's also making the right decision, having good nutrition, doing 60 or more minutes of physical activity day, and being a good sportsmanship.

But now, after watching the video, I think that physical and healthy literacy is a way that to critical think and act toward a healthy life. Also, I think that people who have a physical and healthy literacy life, are people who make good decisions on what to eat, know all the basic things about all sports, and are always active. One interesting thing I learned watching this video was that lots of people die for not being active. From now on, I am going to be more healthy and doing more sports by critical thinking and acting.

But now I know that eating also matters in your health and you need to have a wise decision when choosing what to eat, for example bacon or lettuce. Exercises also can make huge changes in your life, if you walk for 30 minutes all days you can stay healthy and your heart would thank you.

  58. Before this video I simply thought that physical and health literacy meant reading books about being physically active and healthy. Now I understand what it means. You aren't supposed to simply exercise and "eat fruit", you have to use physical and healthy literacy to think critically about how to be healthy and what you have to do. Once you accomplish this you can improve all areas of your life, such as grades, relationships, and lifespan as well.

  61. Upon watching this video I learned what the terms "Physical and Health Literacy" meant. If I'm being frank with this comment, this is actually the first time that I ever heard these terms in my life. There are some things though that I don't agree with was when it was stated that people from ages 6-16 should have a demanding exercise routine. I'm not saying I disagree with that, I'm just saying that it should also be focused on people who have jobs, who are sitting in a desk all day. Because that is when it gets even more tricky. But overall, I found this video very insightful and worth the watch.

  62. What is the meaning of physical and health literacy I asked myself before watching the video, and reading through some of the comments. Then I knew what it was after watching the video, which to be frank was a good watch as I learned that it is about making a good decision about the amount of exercises you do daily, the sort of diets, your way of lifestyle, and how you can live a balanced life. Its all about making conscious choices that will have a good impact on your health and life, in your everyday life.

  63. I believe..
At first I thought physical and health literature was just knowing what was right and wrong to do in order to stay healthy and fit. Now I know that it constitutes of much more than that. I physically literate person is conscious and confident of how to play games and activities that will help them stay fit. For example, if someone is a basketball player, they must know how to shoot, defend and dribble, and be able to do it confidently. Being health literate is knowing and making the correct choices on how to take care of their body.

  64. Physical and Health Literacy is more than being good...

Physical and Health literacy is more than just being healthy, and knowing how to do a certain sport. It involves knowing how to make healthy decisions that are correct for you and your body, for example what to eat, and what sports to do that are better for your health. It also includes knowing how to be confident, and challenging yourself in the activity you are participating in, always trying to go beyond and trying to improve yourself in a constant fashion. It is very important to being able to take risks and being open minded when it comes to physical activities. When you are taking risks, you are constantly trying to challenge yourself to do better thus leading to an improvement in the activity, you don't have to be the best, but challenging yourself can make you a better person in whole. Being open minded is important, as with open mindedness you are willing to partake in new activities that you haven't tried before, and working with new people from who you can learn from them, and try to become better in the new activity that is being taken place in. There are many decisions, and impacts that affect the success of an individual or group in a sport. For example, it is the person's choice on how far they are willing to go beyond in the sport, and trying to partake in the game; the more you try to get involved in the sport, and the more you try to learn from your mistakes, the more success in the game. Another impact on group sports is how effectively you communicate with your teammates, and how you can give constructive criticism so you can learn from each other. The more a team communicates in the game in a good way, and the more they learn from each other, the more success. Research has shown that without the development of physical literacy, many children withdraw from physical activity and sports and turn to more unhealthy or inactive choices during their time. It is important to have the literacy as with it you will always be doing a certain healthy activity that you like, and that will be good for your health as you will be always doing it. This literacy connects to my life as in swimming, I am always trying to improve myself in doing faster times, and whenever I succeed it gives me the confidence to try harder, and motivates me to get even better times than before.

  65. Physical and Health literacy makes part of our everyday life and it is also much more important than what people think. It means to be aware of our health and understand that this literacy benefit our the development of our body throughout our lives. There is always room for improvement, whether it is your favourite or your worse sport, taking risks and striving to be better is the best way to improve skill wise and mentally wise. Not only health literacy is for yourself but also to understand and respect others in activities. Group sports improve out communication skills and also makes us a better person, thinking as a whole and not as an individual. It is essential to help others improve their physical and health literacy which is not the same as complaining on a specific sport. Taking risks to try something new or a new dribble, or a new pass, or a new exercise is our way to explore the capability of our bodies; when taking risks, you are constantly trying to challenge yourself to do better. It is essential to have goals and understanding of how to achieve them by taking risks, or else, one would never improve because one would not be open minded or determined to improve. Passionate people for health literacy develop a life-long healthy lifestyle. These athletes take into consideration the understanding of their goals and abilities during different years of their life to keep a constant rate of improvement. I personally connect to this physical and health literacy in many aspects: since a little kid I have always been described as an athlete, from being the fastest in the class, to tennis classes, basketball activities and my favourite; soccer. Being active and healthy has always been a priority throughout my life. Having my ups and downs, through sports and health I have learned to be a better person in and outside the field, always striving to be better. Through the end of my adolescence I have developed a passion for working out and I hope it improves in the future by following the health and physical literacies.
